Aston Martin and James Bond… say no more. Surely this is one of the earliest examples of product placement in a movie?!  In Goldfinger we first see Bond drive an Aston… and what a car it was! The Aston Martin DB5 in Silver Birch is iconic and has appeared in 6 Bond films. Laden with Q gadgets, it’s famous for having the ejector seat which Bond successfully uses on one of Auric Goldfinger’s henchman!

To research this painting I visited the excellent Bond in Motion exhibition in London and I thoroughly recommend it to all Bond fans. Amongst the actual cars from the movies was a scale model of the DB5 built for the scenes filmed at Bond’s ancestral home in Skyfall. I was able to take photos of this model from all angles which gave me an excellent reference to work from for this painting.
