Porsche
A client asked me to make a painting of his new pride and joy, a stunning Porsche. This was a good challenge to create the China white paint finish of the car with reflections. The painting is 1m x 0.7m in acrylic on canvas and will hang in his newly renovated study alongside another big piece of mine, this Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.
Ayrton Senna
Graphite illustration of Ayrton Senna. A client commission.
Brooklands flat out
“Brooklands – flat out” acrylic on wooden box frame 50cm x 50cm. This painting is SOLD.
Mercedes Benz 300sl
The Mercedes-Benz 300sl Gullwing is one of the most beautiful cars of all time. If I ever win the lottery this car will be top of my shopping list! But for now I have to settle for just painting one!
The doors, of course, are the outstanding feature of the car, and with both of them open, the reason it’s known as ‘Gullwing’ becomes obvious. The shape is both elegant and functional. The Gullwing Coupé was in production for a surprisingly short three years, during which only 1,400 examples were built between 1954 and 1957. Many celebrities in the 1950’s owned Gullwings including Clark Gable, Tony Curtis, and Sophia Loren. Here is Sophia with hers:-
This painting is sold. Please contact me to commission your own.
Fangio Maserati
I’m a big fan of 1950’s motorsport – huge in fact! And my favourite car from this era is the Maserati 250F. This painting features Fangio driving the pants off the Maserati at Monza in 1957. I worked up this watercolour just using back and white paint as the reference image was an old atmospheric black and white photo. Really pleased with the end result and think I should do a few more black and white paintings like this as it got a lot of positive feedback.
Prints of this painting are available from £50 / $70 Please go to my Saatchi Art page here
I sold the original of this painting and the new owner shared this photo of it hanging proudly in his house. He emailed to say “It’s a fine atmospheric picture with a period feel to it that’s a pleasure to own”…. great to have fantastic client feedback like that.
Ayrton Senna
This illustration of the legend Ayrton Senna in his early days with the Lotus team was commissioned recently by a huge Senna fan. He was delighted with the drawing and emailed me to say: “The way you captured Senna was fantastic! You see so many drawings of the man but many fail to get the eyes and that contemplation you see through them just before a race. What an artist!”.
Bruce McClaren
I painted Bruce McLaren in his 1969 car here at the Monaco Grand Prix and this watercolour was purchased by a client in Austria. It’s a personal favourite painting of mine. McLaren should run this colour livery again one day!
