This watercolour portrait commission of a gorgeous little ballerina was painted from a black and white studio photo reference. It’s great to have a good quality reference to work from when developing a portrait. I scan them in so that I can zoom in using my iPad when working on the painting. When working in watercolour you do find the art paper ripples as you work on it so I had the framers mount it on a board first to ensure the finish was perfect. I’ve included a video showing how the piece developed. I’m proud of this painting as it really captures the beauty of the image… and the client was extremely pleased with the result!
